Mining

Overview

The mining division of Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL) has its iron ore operations in the mineral rich Barbil-Barajamda belt in the Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odisha. It holds a leading position in the Indian mining industry for adoption of modern mining technology in its operations. EMIL takes pride in its sustainable mining practices. Giving back to the community is a part of our philosophy.

The mines have a substantial resource base of superior quality iron ore with high Fe (iron) content and bulk density. The Fe content varies between 62 to 66 per cent, which makes it one of the best quality ore available in the country. The potential of the proven deposit as well as the quality and quantity of reserves are adequate to sustain mining operations for the next 10 years at the current operating capacity.

Our mining operations are fully mechanized and adopt state-of-the-art technology and equipment such as adoption of SURPAC computerized software for ore reserve estimation, mine planning and scheduling of operations, use of most modern XRF analysers for accurate determination of ore quality, use of modern mining equipments such as hydraulic drifters, in-pit crushers, cone crushers and mobile crushers etc. Flexibility in operations enables the division to maximize the utilization of resources, as well as to cater to the needs of diverse customers.

EMIL's mines are located in the Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odhisa. The three mines i.e. the Jilling Langalota Iron and Manganese Mines, the Kasia Iron and Dolomite Mines, the Koira Iron Mines. The Jilling Langalota Mines are known for their quality ore with very high Fe and Tumbler Index, which is preferred by sponge iron producers. The Kasia and Koira Mines produce iron ore which is suitable for pig iron producers. The fines generated in the process are supplied to domestic sinter and pellet plants.
