|About our Mining Division
The Mining Division of Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL) has its iron ore operations in the mineral rich Barbil-Barajamda belt in the Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odisha. It holds a leading position in the Indian mining industry for its superior mining techniques, equipment, scale, flexible operations and systems. EMIL takes pride in its sustainable development programmes. Giving back to the environment and the community is part of our mining philosophy.
The mines have a substantial resource base of superior quality iron ore with high Fe (iron) content and bulk density. The Fe content varies between 62 to 66 per cent, which makes it one of the best quality ore available in the country. The potential of the proven deposit as well as the quality and quantity of reserves are adequate to sustain mining operations for the next 20 years at the current operating capacity.
Our mining operations are mechanised and adopt state-of-the-art technology and equipment such as a hydraulic drifter, in-pit crusher, cone crushers and mobile crushers. Flexibility in operations enables the division to maximise the utilisation of resources, as well as to cater to the needs of diverse customers. Backed by a focus on R&D, it has achieved global benchmarks on various operational parameters.
EMIL's mines are located in the Keonjhar and Sundergarh districts of Odhisa with three operative mines and one mine in the process of becoming operational -- the Jilling Langalota Iron and Manganese Mines, the Kasia Iron and Dolomite Mines, the Koira Iron Mines and the Unchabali Iron and Manganese Mines. The Jilling Langalota Mines are known for their quality ore with very high Fe and Tumbler Index, which is preferred by sponge iron producers. The Kasia and Koira Mines produce iron ore suitable for pig iron producers. The fines generated are supplied to domestic sinter and pellet plants.
|Our products are:
||Calibrated lump iron ore (CLO) – inputs for iron-making through the DRI/BF process
||Iron ore fines – inputs for sinters and pellets, used for making pig iron
The Mining Division's roadmap includes exploring further mining acquisitions and leveraging both greenfield as well as brownfield opportunities. Further, to capitalise on the wealth of experience and expertise garnered in the mining sector, EMIL has also entered the field of coal and contract coal mining. Currently Coal Mining Division has two projects under the Mine Developer cum Operator (MDO) route.
EMIL is the lead partner in consortium with Grasim Industries Limited in operating the 20 Mtpa Bhubaneshwari Coal Operations of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a Government of India undertaking. The operations will achieve peak coal production of 20 MTPA and will produce 270 Million Tons of coal over the next 15 years.
EMIL led consortium has been awarded Rajmahal Opencast project in Jharkhand. Rajmahal is the largest production unit of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a Government of India undertaking. The operations will have a peak coal production of 17 MTPA and will produce 199.98 Million Tons of coal over 12.5 years.
