|EMIL bags Global Mining Sustainability Award 2011
The Asia Mining Congress has conferred the Global Mining Sustainability Award 2011 to Essel Mining & Industries Ltd (a unit of the Aditya Birla Group) for its outstanding contribution in the area of sustainable livelihood. The award ceremony was held at the 12th Asia Mining Congress organised by Terrapinn, a Singapore-based media company, on April 6, 2011.
The grand jury for the award comprised Kathryn McPhail, senior program director, International Council on Mining and Metals, UK; Karsten Fuelster, senior investment officer - business development infrastructure and natural resources department, International Finance Corporation (IFC) - World Bank Group, Indonesia; and Professor David Brereton director - centre for social responsibility in mining, University of Queensland, Australia.
It is indeed an honour for an Indian company to get recognition overseas and be the winner among the shortlisted five corporates (Energy Resources, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa, Hindustan Zinc and Erdene Resource) in north Asia.
Mr. Nirupam Sil, deputy general manager (CSR), EMIL, received the coveted trophy on behalf of the company.
